Wireless

Library users can use their wireless laptop computers to get Internet access at any table or chair in the library and are not limited to the normal computer areas of the library. Wireless access to the Internet is provided for cultural, educational, and informational purposes.

How do I use wireless at the library?

You will need to bring your own laptop computer to the library and it will need to have built-in WiFi or you will need to install a WiFi network card.

Most WiFi equipment will be compatible. However, the library system can make no guarantees as to compatibility of your equipment with the library's network.

You will be prompted for a user name and password. This password can be obtained from the Library Reference Department.

You will be directed to the Wireless Internet Usage Page when accessing the wireless network. You will be required to agree to the policy before proceeding into the network.

Will I have filtered or unfiltered access to the Internet?

Limited Filtering is provided by Internet Provider. Wireless access is provided on a separate network from library-owned computers and additional filtering is not provided by Quincy Public Library for this network.

Can the library help me configure my computer?

No. Everyone's computer is different and you are responsible for knowing how to configure your own equipment. The Quincy Public Library cannot be responsible for any changes you make to your computer's settings, or problems which develop while using the wireless network such as virus infections. Keep in mind that the information you send and receive over the wireless network is visible to other users.

If you need additional assistance, you may need to contact the manufacturers of your hardware or software.
