QPL’s 2018 summer reading program kicks off on Saturday, June 2 from 9 am to Noon. Pick up your reading logs to get started and enjoy refreshments, entertainment, games, and crafts.
Summer reading is open to people of all ages. Each person who completes a reading log will earn fun prizes and chances on drawings for bikes or gift baskets. The more you read, the more chances you have to win!
Participation in a summer reading program helps children retain critical skills when they return to school in the fall. Studies have shown that children participating in summer reading get higher test scores in reading, literacy, and math. Summer reading is a great time for kids to choose books on the subjects that interest them, spurring their interest and enjoyment in books and reading.
We’ll finish a fun summer of reading with an ending party on Saturday, July 28, from 10 am to Noon. You’ve read the books. You’ve completed the reading logs. Now come see if you’ve won one of the fantastic prizes! Enjoy refreshments and book bingo, while we announce the winners.
During summer reading, readers under the age of 18 may ride Quincy Transit Lines city buses to the library for free when they show a valid QPL card. (Children under 10 must be accompanied by a guardian.)
QPL hosts a wide variety of daily events for children, teens, and adults during summer reading.
