The Friends of the Library’s Spring Book Sale will be held April 4, 5, and 6, 2019. Hours for the sale are Thursday 10 am to 6:30 pm, Friday 10 am to 4:30 pm, and Saturday 10 am to 4:30 pm (half-price day). The sale is held in the Library’s Large Meeting Room, and is accessible through the north-facing parking lot door near the Memorial Garden. A variety of materials are available for purchase such as fiction and non-fiction adult titles in both hardback and paperback formats, children’s books, cookbooks, collectible books, coffee table and art books, books on compact disc, VHS, DVDs, and music CDs.
What is the Friends of the Library?
The Friends of the Library is a non-profit organization that supports the Library by establishing a closer relationship between the Library and its patrons. The Friends operate Secondhand Prose, a used book store within the Library. The Friends assume various projects and sponsor special Library events that are open to the public. The Friends meet regularly throughout the year to discuss organization business.
The Friends of the Library also participate in the Amazon Smile program to raise funds through Amazon purchases. To select the Friends of the Library as your Smile charity, go to smile.amazon.com and select “Friends of the Quincy Public Library” as your charity of choice.
Book Sale Committee: Coordinates the periodic book sale.
Traveling Books Committee: Provides free books for travelers at Baldwin Field, the train depot, and bus depot.
Book Store Committee: Manages and oversees the daily operations for “Secondhand Prose.”
Program Committee: Schedules speakers & presentations for monthly Friends meetings.
Public Relations Committee: Markets and promotes Friends events and activities.
Secondhand Prose is a gently used book store operated by the Friends of the Quincy Public Library.
Regular hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm The book store is located inside the entrance of the Library. A library card is not required to enter or to make purchases at Secondhand Prose.
Coffee, cappuccino and hot chocolate are available for purchase. All proceeds from the book store benefit the Library.
Book donations for Secondhand Prose may be dropped off at the book store any time during regular Library hours. The Friends do not accept donations of LPs, textbooks, encyclopedias or magazines.

The Friends of the Library meet on Mondays at the Quincy Public Library in the Puppet Room at 1:00 p.m. unless otherwise noted. The 2019 meeting dates are:

Enjoy the special “Friends of the Library” luncheon twice a year.
Since 1999, the Friends have donated more than $200,000 to the Library to purchase items outside of the general budget, such as sponsorships of the Big Read and the Little Read; computer equipment; digital resources for QPL’s e-collection; and other items to enhance library programs and resources.
The Friends of the Library also remember those Friends who have passed away with memorials to the Library.
