We recently gave you a list of bookfluencers to follow. This time, we are bringing you some of the folks who know more about books than almost anyone, the authors themselves! We focused on Instagram this time because that seems to have the largest collection of authors on social media. We tried to highlight creators who do not have the highest follower count, unlike Rupi Kaur and John Green, who top the charts.
Let's get into it!
- Angie Thomas - @angiethomas
Popular works: The Hate U Give, Concrete Rose, On the Come Up
Angie Thomas is a huge name in the YA sphere, particularly after the movie version of The Hate U Give released. Follow Thomas for insights into her writing journey, especially the soundtracks she uses as inspiration. She also gives behind-the-scenes peeks to book events and gives amazing book recommendations. If nothing else, stay for the adorable pictures of her sweet puppies Kobe and Gigi. - Marie Lu - @marieluthewriter
Popular works: Legend series, Warcross series, Red City
Marie Lu has published books from middle grade to adult fiction, and she shows no signs of slowing down. Her page gives viewers a look at her writing process and author events. She also shares wonderful snapshots from all her travels. Lu is multitalented, so fans also get glimpses of her playing music and the drawings she does of her characters are not to be missed. - Victoria Aveyard - @victoriaaveyard
Popular works: Red Queen series, Realm Breaker series
Victoria Aveyard has been a published young adult author for over a decade with a new adult title coming out later 2026. Aveyard is an active social media user, using her platform to speak directly to her fans as well as aspiring writers. She creates engaging content about being a traditionally published author while not shying away from larger conversations regarding the future of publishing and what role AI is playing in the book space. - Cheryl Strayed - @cherylstrayed
Popular works: Wild, Tiny Beautiful Things
A favorite of actor and producer Reese Witherspoon, Cheryl Strayed continues to inspire beyond her Wild days. Strayed gives her followers a glimpse at the life of a busy author, including her adventures away from the writing page. She co-hosts a podcast called, "Dear Sugars," a continuation of her advice column that ran between 2010-2012. Visitors to her page will leave inspired one way or another. - Dan Brown - @authordanbrown
Popular works: The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons, Secret of Secrets
Dan Brown's novels are known for their historical research, so it might surprise his fans to know that he is very much a modern social media user. Of course, Brown shares photos from his book tours and work as an author. For those who love the historical details in his books, Brown's page is a fascinating look at the research he does to make those details come to life. Following Dan Brown will make you feel like Robert Langdon hunting down clues at the Louvre.
Hopefully learning more about these authors through their social media will help you connect to their materials or maybe they will inspire your own author's journey. Get out there and read on!
