In January and February, Patrons had the opportunity to share with the Quincy Public Library (QPL) what they love about QPL. These messages were posted on the Children’s and Teen’s Bulletin Boards. The end result was full of joy! The Reference Desk, Circulation Desk, and Children’s Desk had hearts with the prompt, “I love QPL because. . .” then patrons could fill in the blank.
Here, I will share five anonymous messages that were shared with staff throughout February.
I love QPL because... we get unlimited access to books and can basically read anything you want.
We, the library staff, do our absolute best to provide access to patrons to what you want to read. If what you are looking for is not on the shelf, we can “place a hold” on the item among our system of libraries in Illinois, which means we will place you on a list for that book to come to you when the next copy is available. This could mean soon, such as in 3 days, or when the next available copy is ready!
We also provide interlibrary loans, which means we can swap books with libraries outside of our library system. This may just take a bit longer than a hold, such as a week or two.
I love QPL because...It’s the perfect place to learn and grow! Thank you for all you do!
The programmers try their best to offer educational programs. The selectors also purchase materials that you can check out to read on your own to learn and grow. We also offer study rooms and computers that you can use for free! What’s more, we have the Illinois Room where you can learn about Illinois and Quincy History or study your family history.
I love QPL because... I find just what I need... or my librarian does!
Many people do not know, but if you have a question, you may approach the Reference Desk, also known as the Ask Here Desk, and ask your question! You can ask if we know the title of a book, if we have any suggestions for your next read, if we can search for the number for a business, if we can help you find books or resources on a subject, and more!
I love QPL because... of the variety of materials available.
The selectors do their absolute best to provide a wide variety of ideas and topics in their collections. The librarians who purchase nonfiction get books, movies, and audiobooks in a wide variety of ideas. The librarians who purchase fiction, purchase books, movies, and audiobooks in a wide variety of genres.
I love QPL because... there are so many FREE events to attend! And they are FUN too!
We do have tons of events happening at QPL! We often have free events happening every day! You just need to keep your eyes on the calendar which can be found at www.quincylibrary.org/events/month or at the desks in the library! We also have the Mobile Library out and about, and the Mobile Library’s calendar can be found at www.quincylibrary.org/mobile-library !
