Now that school is officially back in session, and first week jitters are (hopefully) taken care of, let's talk about what Quincy Public Library (QPL) can do for your classroom! Some of the Educator Services we provide include:
- Delivery of materials to your school
- Selection of books and multimedia materials for classroom use
- Pick-up of materials previously dropped off
- Extended check-out times for classroom materials
- Library card available specifically for educators
Anybody who teaches in Quincy Public School District #172 can sign up for an Educator Library Card and sign up for School Delivery. This is a great way for folks who might live out of the QPL district and thus cannot get a free card to get one for their classroom needs. Delivery happens on the same day every four weeks with an email reminder sent beforehand. This reminder is convenient not only for delivery, but as a nudge to gather up materials for return as well.
If an instructor needs their delivery before the scheduled time, they can request a delivery to one of the QPL locker sites as long as the number of materials will fit. Lockers are located outside the QPL main building, at Lincoln-Douglas School, or Iles School. Likewise, materials can be returned at any of the QPL book return spots located at Lincoln-Douglas School or Iles School, the Quincy Mall, Hy-Vee on Harrison Street, John Wood Community College, or Walmart.
When choosing which materials to request, our School Outreach Specialist is here to help. If the teacher already knows which titles they want, then the Specialist will work to ensure that plenty of copies get into the hands of the readers. But maybe an instructor just knows they will be covering a certain topic, like inventors, and needs help coming up with specific books. That's where our Specialist really gets to shine! They will work with the instructor to provide a list of materials that are age appropriate and engaging!
All these resources are here to let educators focus on what they do best, educating! By streamlining the selection and delivery process, QPL can relieve some of the most time-consuming parts of the curriculum process. A library card can connect teachers to even more resources like World Book Online and the EBSCO Teacher Resource Center. Want to know more? More Hands-On Education!
Want even more resources for hands-on learning? Head over to the Library of Things where you can check out things like the Code-a-Pillar or a kit from the IL Department of Natural Resources. In the spring, you could even have your very own egg incubator!
