The Quincy Public Library had the opportunity to borrow a trunk filled with virtual reality equipment from the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center in Skokie, Illinois. This was available for two weeks, on a reservation basis.
2025 marks the second year in a row that this trunk & these materials have made their way to Quincy. On each occasion, it has been an opportunity to learn about the Holocaust in new ways. Both through the use of virtual reality & in listening to first person stories from survivors about their experiences during the Holocaust.
QPL paired this year's event with a display featuring library materials relating to the Holocaust like The man who broke into Auschwitz by Denis Avery. The August selection for Banned Book Club is Maus, a graphic novel about a Holocaust survivor and his son's struggle with that legacy. Also, the Quincy Public Library has materials on hand about the Holocaust all year long, in addition to what is available on the digital resources of Hoopla, Libby, & Kanopy.
Thank you to the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center for the loaner & thank you to everyone who attended this event. We hope to continue to bring events like this to Quincy - to be representative of the community, to aid in expanding worldviews, & to aid in lifelong learning. So, please keep an eye on the library calendar of events for what QPL is doing on a monthly basis.
