The First Amendment protects us from censorship from all levels of government under the freedoms of speech and expression.

Books-- particularly those that have diverse perspectives and people, and those that represent real life-- are being censored and banned more and more in growing movements across the country.  The numbers of books bans nationwide has gone from 2,532 in 2021–22 to 10,046 during the 2023–24 school year. Books, libraries, authors, and your freedom to read what you want are under attack! We can no longer sit by, complacent, while our freedom to read is abused.

Quincy Public Library and Quanada are taking a stand against censorship and the people and organizations that want to take away your freedom to read.

Join us in this kickoff event as we celebrate the freedom to read during Banned Books Week and beyond. We will be giving away over 2,000 banned books of varying titles. Come join us, enjoy refreshments, and help us celebrate great, diverse books and our freedom to read them!
