Memorial Monday, June 16-22

A somewhat delayed Memorial Monday. On June 17th, Anne Burrell passed away. She was a chef, cooking competition show host, & a competitor herself.

Anne Burrell appeared on multiple Food Network shows in some capacity - Chopped Champions, Iron Chef, Beat Bobby Flay, Worst Cooks in America. Anne also worked in various restaurants in Italy at one point in her career, in addition to working with Lidia Bastianich & Mario Batali. Anne also taught at the Institute of Culinary Education.

You can catch cooking related shows on Kanopy or you can check out cookbooks on Libby & Hoopla. Both at the Quincy Public Library & through the partner libraries, you do have access to cookbooks by Anne Burrell, Lidia Bastianich, & Mario Batali. (If these are not your speed, there are cookbooks galore across the partnerships & the apps listed above. You can either use the website to search or you can call the library & put in a request.)

Anne was found unresponsive in her apartment on June 17, 2025. Her autopsy report is currently pending but multiple pills were found near her body, leading to speculation that the cause might have been an overdose.

If you are struggling, please check the resource binders available at the Quincy Public Library. A variety of resources around the community have been compiled by the library & is provided free of charge.
Additionally, the national substance abuse hotline is: 844-289-0879. For more information & resources,  you can always check the hotline's website.
