Memorial Monday, June 30-July 6

This happens to be a somewhat film focused Memorial Monday. Last week saw the passing of both Julian McMahon & Michael Madsen.

Julian McMahon was born on July 27, 1968. His filmography might not be as long as we may have expected, he was able to work with some big name people & create work that has garnered large followings. He appeared in the Fantastic Four movies from 2005 & 2007, as well as Premonition with Sandra Bullock & Red with Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, & John Malkovich. What McMahon was really known for was his work on television. Having started out in soap operas, he was able to use his abilities in more serious tv shows - Charmed, Nip/Tuck, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (the remake with Elijah Wood), & the FBI shows - FBI, FBI: Most Wanted, & FBI: International. He passed away on July 2, 2025 after battling cancer.

Michael Madsen was born on September 25, 1957. He was one of those actors who you might not have known their name, but you have likely seen him in something. Madsen also acted in a range of genres - so, if you weren't into one movie, you could easily move onto something else. He appeared in War Games, The Natural, Thelma & Louise, Free Willy & Free Willy 2, Wyatt Earp, Donnie Brasco, Die Another Day, Sin City, & Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe. There are also all of those times he worked with Quentin Tarantino - Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill volume 1 & volume 2, The Hateful Eight, & Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Madsen passed away on July 3, 2025, due to cardiac arrest.

The Quincy Public Library does have ComicsPlus, so you can read the comics that any of the movies above are based upon. That is in addition to the access to physical copies, if that is your speed. And don't forget about Kanopy, to stream the movies you don't want to borrow on DVD. Lastly, if you are someone dealing with cancer or heart issues, the Quincy Public Library does have access to materials available to borrow, should you want to read up on it.
