The sting of 2025 continues.

Robert Redford was born August 18, 1936. During his formative years, he spent a good amount of time visiting family in Texas - time & space to which he attributed his interest in & desire to take care of the environment.

Redford was popular on the awards circuit. He won an Oscar & a Golden Globe (both for Best Director) for the movie Ordinary People in 1980; was nominated for Best Actor & Best Director Oscars for the movie Quiz Show in 1994, as well as nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for The Sting in 1973. Redford was also nominated for a Best Director Golden Globe in 1992 for A River Runs Through It, for Quiz Show in 1994, & again in 1998 for The Horse Whisperer. Redford won a Best Actor BAFTA for his performance as the Sundance Kid in Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid in 1970 (beating out Paul Newman who was also up for the same award for his role as Butch Cassidy). He was also awarded a Screen Actor's Guild Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996. He was a Kennedy Center Honoree in 2005, received a Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016, & was awarded

the Kennedy Center Honors in 2005, the 2016 Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the 2019 Honorary César. He was named by Time as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2014.

Then there are the movies that Redford was in that did not garner awards, but are popular: Jeremiah Johnson; The Candidate; The Great Gatsby; Three Days of the Condor; All the President's Men; A Bridge Too Far; The Natural; Out of Africa; Indecent Proposal; Up Close & Personal; Barefoot in the Park; The Last Castle; Spy Game; Lions for Lambs; The Company You Keep; All is Lost; A Walk in the Woods; & The Old Man & the Gun. Over the decades, Robert Redford has been the eye candy & the romantic lead, but he has also been in action & drama movies. He directed & he produced, as well.

In addition to his leading man status, Redford was committed to putting good into the world. He founded the Sundance Institute, which is a nonprofit that promotes the growth of independent artists & runs the Sundance Film Festival. (Sundance has also grown into one of the biggest independent film festivals in the world.) Redford was also known for his political activism, championing Native American & indigenous people's rights, environmentalism, & LGBT rights.
