Renaissance Readers meet at 10:00 am on the second Tuesday of each month.
This month's book selection is The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin by Benjamin Franklin.
The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin—often referred to by Franklin himself as his Memoirs—is an unfinished yet iconic account of his life, written between 1771 and 1790. Despite a complicated publication history following his death, it has become one of the most influential autobiographies in American literature.
Franklin's narrative is divided into four distinct parts, each written at different times in his life. While there are clear breaks between the first three sections, Part Three flows directly into Part Four without interruption. In the 1916 edition, editor F. W. Pine described the work as “the most remarkable of all the remarkable histories of our self-made men,” with Franklin standing as the ultimate example.
